Gravity Belt Thickener
The OMEGA Gravity Belt Thickener is designed for continuous mechanical thickening of municipal or industrial sludge. Customers use OMEGA in a number of sludge thickening applications:
- As a final step to increase the dry solids concentration to 6-8%, replacing conventional gravity static thickeners, flotation systems, and other inefficient technologies.
- As a pre-dewatering stage, when combined in?line with a belt filter press, to optimize filter press efficiency.
- As a pre-dewatering stage before a plate filter press or centrifuge, to downsize the dewatering equipment.
- For sludge volume reduction before anaerobic digestion processes to reduce digester size.
Benefits
OMEGA’s innovative and efficient technology reduces sludge volume by at least 4 times. The simple, rugged design offers a number of benefits:
- Low energy consumption
- Reliable and durable components
- Low maintenance and operations supervision
The OMEGA Gravity Belt Thickener range can be designed up to to 200 m³/h of raw sludge.

Combination Gravity Belt Thickener & Belt Filter Press
Combo units associate the functions of one gravity belt thickener and one belt filter press.
This combination increases the mass load of 30% and the dryness from 2 to 5%. The gravity belt thickener can be installed in the front or on the top of the belt filter press.
Benefits
Space Savings
- No need for gravity settling tank, sludge storage tank or flotation unit
- Belt thickener can be mounted on the top of the belt press when footprint’ constraint
Optimized BFP Performance
- Dry solids concentration of the sludge entering the belt press is stable (The gravity belt thickener regulates DS%)
- Sludge flowing to the belt press is reduced by 4 to 10 times
Cost Savings
- Optimized process
- No need for additional polymer with the BFP
- Increase of the dry solids loading rate on the belt press by 30% = smaller BFP
- Adds-on equipment are common to the GBT and BFP
- Smaller footprint
Ease of Use
- No maintenance platform
- Easy supervision of process (flocculation, thickening…)
- Easy maintenance (greasing…)
- Easy change of wear parts
GBT & BFP Combo Options
Combo Omega CC
- Belt width: from 0.60 to 1.20 m
- Hydraulic flow: up to 15 m3/h
Combo 100,000 / SD or MD
- Belt width: from 1 to 2.50 m
- Hydraulic flow: up to 40 m3/h
Combo 1,000 / MD, LD, THC
- Belt width: from 1 to 2.50 m
- Hydraulic flow: up to 150 m3/h
Plate Filter Press
The plate filter press thickens industrial or urban sludge. A pressure drive injects sludge at a pressure of 15 bars; cloth filters evacuate the water to thicken the material. Pumping polymers into the sludge, or using a reactor to mix ferric chloride and/or lime into the mixture, can further condition the sludge.
Models
Three plate filter press families are available:
- FPM: plate filter press with manual plate shifting system
- FPAC and FPAV: plate filter press with semi-automatic plate shifting system
- CRS: fully automatic plate filter press
FPM: Plate Filter Press with Manual Plate Shifting System
The FPM plate filter press includes a manual plate shifting system. It is suitable for small sludge volumes.
Features include:
- 35 to 1300 liter capacity
- 30 to 90 plates
- Plate thickness of 20 to 35 mm.
- Manual plate shifting to remove cake
FPAC & FPAV: Plate Filter Press with Semi-Automatic Plate Shifting System
The FPAV plate filter press model is equipped with a jack to draw the first plate, which allows the operator to shake the cakes free all of the remaining interconnected plates.
Features include:
- Mechanized plate movement by two lateral trolleys
- Interconnected plates
- 190 to 7890 liter capacity
- 70 to 150 plates
- Plate thickness of 20 to 35 mm.
